Blue, Silver, Pearls = Art Deco

I don't know why it is that when I see the combination of blues, silvers, gold and pearls the first thing that pops into my mind is the Art Deco period. Those specific colors make me think of old Hollywood, parties, beautiful elegant hotels and condos, ladies with their big fur coats and silky party dresses and champagne just flowing everywhere.

When I saw the Frilly and Funkie Blogspot January 2017 - Winter Hues challenge I immediately thought what better project than an Art Deco piece and my muse just started with all kinds of ideas.

This is an 8" x 6" canvas panel that I had started in a class I took late last year. It was painted with gesso and the decorative background had been added with modeling paste. When I saw it on my "future project pile" I knew it was perfect for this challenge. The first layer of paint was a metallic blue, then a light layer of silver paint was added randomly. After they were dry, I added blue Inka Gold metallic rub to highlight the raised areas. The beautiful silver decorations on the sides and the blue medallion on the bottom are clay embellishments. The image of the elegant lady is a vintage photo that was painted with water colors, added the pearl necklace, earring and some stickles on the coat's swirls. I envisioned this coat to be an expensive velvet, fur trimmed coat used to go to an elegant party on a cold winter night.

I'm also submitting this to the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge - Anything Goes

I hope you like it as much as I loved creating it! Thank you for stopping by.

Tag Tuesday Challenge - Dreams

Hello Everyone!

Hope you all had a very nice and relaxing weekend. This week's theme at the Tag Tuesday Blog is "Dreams".

I started out by putting gesso on the tag, dried it, then added Distress Paint in Faded Jean. The stars are embossed with Lindy's Stamp Gang powder in Angel Wings Peacock. I've had this beautiful image for a while and thought that the theme was perfect for her. She is sitting on a cliff [I think] and seems to be deep in thought. I think that the stamped quote from Thoreau: "Dreams are the touchstones of our characters" is a nice finishing touch.

Hope you like her and thank you for your comments!

Steampunk Canvas - Last Time

Hello Everyone, I hope you all had a nice weekend! As I was trying to organize some of my supplies, I found this canvas that I finished a while ago. I put it aside with plans to post it at a later time, but I hadn't planned to wait this long! lol!

It is a Steampunk themed 8" x 10" canvas, with a lot of layers, dimensional stencils, paint and clock embellishments. The sentiment at the top reads: "when was the last time you did something for the very first time". I truly like this message, it's very poignant.

I hope you all like this canvas and thank you for stopping by!!!

Tag Tuesday Blog Challenge - Blue Theme

This week's theme at the Tag Tuesday Blog is "Blue". I'm participating and created the following tag by embossing it with a Darice folder, then added Distress Inks in Chipped Sapphire & Broken China, then added just a bit of Adirondack acrylic's Pool paint.

Once the tag was dried I sprayed Perfect Pearls in Blue Smoke, distressed the sides and added glitter glue to the butterflies. There are star shaped brads and glitter glue around the quote.

I hope you like it and thank you for stopping by!!!

Simon Says Stamp - W Is For White Monday Challenge

I've created this card for the Simon Says Stamp, Simon Monday Challenge W Is for White. At first, I was going to create a white on white card but when I saw the picture of this swan, I wanted to incorporate the subtle blue hues that are on the water. The background was created using Distress Inks in Broken China & just a touch of Weathered Wood leaving the middle portion a bit lighter. I just purchased the Martha Steward stencil & was anxious to use it, so I thought that this project was perfect for the touch of white and also to show the blue background. The swan & the frame are Spellbinder dies that were highlighted with a bit of Broken China. The seam binding is white but to tie it in with the rest of the card, it has a very light tint of Broken China.

I really hope you liked this week's project and thank you for stopping by!!!

Tag Tuesday Challenge - Ephemera

The challenge this week at the Tag Tuesday blog is to use Ephemera. I have to admit that this was an easy challenge for me because I have tons & tons of ephemera - yes, I have a bit of a "problem!"  :)

I'm not sure about you, but when I hear the word "ephemera" the first thing that pops into my mind are vintage images of post cards, postage, love letters and butterflies. While all those images are beautiful and romantic, I wanted to try something just a bit different. The first thing I did was to stencil blue ink as the background. As I was looking through my images, the peacock caught my attention. It complemented the background color and for some reason the background reminded me of a fence - I know, what an imagination right?? Trying to emulate the shimmer of the peacock's colorful tail, I added sequins to it. I also added a few flowers, a piece of a paper doily to the bottom right corner and stamped the text Dream Big.

I hope you all like this week's tag and thank you for stopping by!!!  :)
