Fashionable Stamping Challenges - Use a Mask or Stencil

It's been a while since I've joined the Fashionable Stamping Challenges. The project for this week is Challenge #58 - Use a Mask or Stencil . I decided to use a stencil and really love the way the tag turned out. I have also added this tag to the Cheerful Stamp Pad, Challenge #71 Lets Stencil.

I used acrylic paint from Folk Art in Tapioca to paint the stencil on the blank tag, then used Distress Ink in Crushed Olive. I spritzed it lightly with water to activate the Distress Ink and dried it. The next step was to spritz it randomly with Perfect Pearls Mist in Sunflower Sparkle then padded the stenciled area with a paper towel, then dried. After it was dry, I stamped the main image of the eye [they saying around the eye reads: "the eye sees a thing more clearly in dreams than the imagination awake"] and stamped the small scroll a few times. I used a white gel pen to highlight the square around the eye. I tried to capture the beautiful shimmer that the tag has and hope that you can see it in the pictures.

Thank you for stopping by!!! :)

Fashionable Stamping Challenges - Flora & Fauna

Lately, I have been pre-occupied with my Mixed Media projects and it's been a while since I've created a card. The inspiration for the card took me a bit longer than I had expected because I was still in the gesso, wire, fiber paste, canvas, etc., phase but I am very happy with the result!

This card was created for the Fashionable Stamping Challenges #52, Flora & Fauna. It is a 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" card, the first layer was embossed then highlighted with Tim Holtz's Distress Ink, the background was created using a Spellbinders die, the flower image was stamped then painted with the Smooch Pearlized Inks and the Stickles were added in the middle for a little bit of sparkle! The saying was stamped on a piece of heavy card stock that was spritzed with Tattered Angels Glitter Mist and mounted on corrugated stock for dimension. The ribbon was colored with a bit of the Smooch Ink and the clay embellishment on the lower right corner was also painted with the Smooch inks.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope you like my latest project!!! :)

ATC Decorated withTattered Flowers & Swirls

I'm not really sure why, but I really enjoyed making this canvas board. Why this particular board? I'm guessing that after using the Gelli Plate, I was truly inspired to create something with layers using several paint colors.

I layered opaque and metallic Lumiere paints, alternating between colors. I was also anxious to try out my new Hero Arts Swirl Stamp, boy, I'm glad I purchased it - it's beautiful!!!!! There is an ATC in the middle that has been stamped and decorated with Dresden, it sits on a piece of card stock with decorative corners. There are pieces of coffee filter that have been inked and stamped with swirls and text. There's a small piece of cheese cloth behind the Tim Holtz's Tattered Flowers and the pin has a blue-green crystal. The ribbon used to hang it up has been painted with the metallic Lumiere paint and has the same small swirl stamp as the coffee filters.

I am super excited because this is the first time that I am able to submit a project to more than 2 challenges -- YEY!!! I'm entering this 5 x 7 canvas board to the following challenges:
Well, I hope I haven't bored you with all my "jibber-jabber" [can you tell that "The Big Bang Theory" is one of my favorites shows? :)]. Thank you for stopping by and leaving your comments!!! :)

Birds of a Feather...

This is my first submission to the Artistic Outpost Referral Program. This month's Referral Program is Anything Goes and the winner will receive an Artistic Outpost Prize Package!

When I saw this bird, I knew that I wanted to add him to some kind of wall hanging and decided to use chipboard. First, I painted the background with a mustard acrylic paint then added a few layers by using strips of dictionary pages, then a few pieces of tissue paper. The quote at the top left corner is stamped with black ink on tissue paper and the quote on the bottom left hand corner was stamped on a piece of muslin. I wanted to simulate what I imagined a bird would use in nature to create its nest, so for the embellishments I used feathers, small tree branches, a small piece of bark, piece of cheesecloth and a maple seed. Not sure if that's accurate, but that's what I imagined. :)  All the buttons used are Mother of Pearl. The plain ivory are vintage but the smaller ones with the yellow flowers are new. A piece of muslin was tied at the top in order to allow you to hang the wall decoration. The bird was stamped on watercolor paper and painted with Distress Inks using water brushes. I added a bit of Distress Stickles to give it some sparkle.

I am also going to submit this project to Fashionable Stamping Challenges. This is Challenge #41 and the theme Birds. The winner at Fashionable Stamping will receive a prize from Cottage Crafts.

Hope you liked my project and thanks for stopping by!!! :)

Fashionable Stamping Challenge #39 and Simon Says Stamp and Show

I created this 6"x6" card for the Fashionable Stamping Challenges #39 - Trains, Planes & Automobiles. I always have trouble with masculine type of ideas but the Fashionable Stamping Designers had beautiful projects that served as great inspiration for me.

The background was created using Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist and a Tim Holtz's stamp. I really liked the way it turned out, but unfortunately as it goes, backgrounds are covered by the main image - that's why I also included a picture of the background. :)   I stamped the car, tore the edges and inked them, added Glossy Accents on the windows & headlights and added Stickles on parts of the image to give it a little "pop". The "tickets" and the quote are also Tim Holtz's stamps.

This week at the Simon Says Stamp and Show challenge, they're asking us to show them what we are known for. Well, I really don't know if I'm known for a specific detail, but most of the time I like to create my own backgrounds and also like to use meaningful quotes on most of my projects. I try to create a 'Happy Birthday, Hello, Get Well', etc., and have created them, but somehow I always lean towards quotes with a deep, emotional meaning.

I hope that you enjoyed my project this week and thank you for stopping by!!! :)

Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of 2012 - August

Here is my tag for Tim's 12 Tags of 2012 - August. I didn't have the silhouette stamp, so I added my own twist. The Sizzix Bigz Die of the Bird & Cage and also the Movers & Shapers Bird & Cage are one of my all time favorite, therefore, I made my little feathery friend the focal point of my tag.

I used the Damask Sizzix embossing folder on the tag, painted it with Adirondack Paint Dabber in Stream, then added Distress Ink in Vintage Photo. The bird was cut from manila stock, inked and heat embossed, it sits on a Sizzix oval die. Instead of using a frame, I decided to use two bird cages to draw your attention to the bird. They were painted with the paint dabber, in Stream, then with Distress Crackle Paint in Pewter. The "roses" were created using the pine cone die. Let me tell you, they are very tricky to assemble!!!! I didn't think that I was going to finish even one "rose" but I ended up with four. I think they're not too bad for my first time using the pine cone! :)  What do you think of them? Tim uses the branches and leaves from his Movers & Shapers Branch & Leaf, but I only used the leaves, I used real branches for the "branches". I really like incorporating nature into my projects when I can. Tim's metal bird and his "memoirs" trinket pin was used to decorate the top of the tag and  I created the pearl embellishments. Once everything dried, I spritzed the tag with Perfect Pearls in Blue Smoke.

I am also entering this tag in the Fashionable Stamping Challenges #29, Anything Floral/Handmade Flowers. This challenge asks that you create a project using a floral motif and/or flowers. It is being sponsored by Cottage Crafts. Please be sure to stop by their store!

Thank you for stopping by and hope you like this project!!! :)

Summer Ice Cream Colors - Challenge 28

This week's challenge at Fashionable Stamping Challenges blog is Summer Ice Cream Colors - Challenge #28 - and it is being sponsored by Cottage Crafts. Please be sure to stop by and say hello! For the challenge, we were asked to create something using the colors of our favorite ice cream. My favorite flavors [yes, plural :)] are Strawberry & French Vanilla. For some reason, thinking of those two colors brought to mind a picture with a sewing theme. So below is my interpretation.

This wall hanging is a piece of wood measuring 6 3/4" L x 4 3/4" W. I painted it with acrylic paint then spritzed Tattered Angels Mist in Lemon Zest. The side wood decorations are painted with acrylic paint and were also spritzed with the Lemon Zest. The Sizzix Dress Form has been inked with a swirl template and has ivory lace & pearls on the bottom. The scissors, spool, saying and needle have been stamped, heat embossed and cut. Lace, pearls, buttons & hand made flowers decorate the piece randomly. Copper wire & pearls were used to hang the piece. Thank you for stopping by & hope you like the project!!! :)

The Journey...

I really like the way this card turned out! I'm submitting it at Simon Says Stamp and Show where the theme this week is Paint It Up! The background consist of several techniques. First, I inked the whole surface with Antique Linen Distress Ink, then I used the Gears template from the Crafter's Workshop using Frayed Burlap Distress Ink. The birds and French text were stamped with black ink, once dried, I spritzed Smooch Spritz in Olive Green. The edges were highlighted with black ink.

The clock is Sizzix Weathered Clock that has been painted with gesso, then with Adirondack Paint Dabber in Lettuce. Once that was dry, I also spritzed it with the Smooch Spritz, when that dried, I painted a few areas here & there with more Lettuce paint. The card stock with Tim's "the journey..." stamp has been painted with watered down Lettuce paint, then also spritzed with Smooch Olive Green. I stamped the birds stamp on shrink plastic, added jump rings and hangs from a swivel clasp.

I am also adding this project to the Fashionable Stamping - Challenge #27, Anything Goes and to the
Sweet Stamps Blog - Challenge 77, Stamped Background. Well, I hope you like the short tutorial and thank you for stopping by!!! :)
