Frankenstein, His Bride and Heart & Foot Milagros

The mid-month challenge over at Lost Coast Portal to Creativity is Challenge #33 - Lovers. I was browsing through my file with clip art of couples when my quirky sense of humor kicked in. I love old horror movies and started searching those images. Well, what do you know, a picture of Frankenstein and his bride just jumped right at me so I figured, why not? Monsters need love too, am I right? lol!

I transferred the image onto cardboard, the small arch die is painted red, highlighted with Black Soot Distress Ink. The skulls are from Graphics 45 and are stamped with permanent ink. The small heart & foot Milagros are from Carmen's Veranda, Small Milagro Set, and are stamped in permanent ink, then colored with Distress Markers. The embellishment at the top is made of clay. Of course, we know that Frankenstein's bride did not feel the same way about poor Frankenstein as he did about her. That's why I thought the stamped quote "I love this place!" was the right phrase for this image.

I hope you enjoy this project. Thank you for visiting!

Sacred Heart, Hope & Believe

Hello Everyone! The weather this past weekend was just beautiful! We left the house to run some errands with a sweater! If you live in the Midwest, you can relate. Usually, February brings snow, snow and more snow.

OK, enough of the weather, time to move on to the project at hand. When I started to create this 9" x 3"canvas, the only idea I had in mind was to have some sort of medieval look to it. I started by covering it in black gesso, then painted it in various hues of blues & greens. Wanting more texture, I added tissue paper then more paints in blues, greens and gold until I was happy with the result. I wanted the sacred heart to be the focal point of the piece so I painted it in reds then added the small glass seed beads for a dramatic look. The keyhole on the heart and the decorative molding at the top and bottom are clay embellishments created from Iron Orchid Design molds.

I wanted to add words that would enhance the beauty of the heart and chose "hope" and "believe". They are stamped on white tissue paper, not adding any color to them purposely so they wouldn't get lost in the background.

I am submitting this canvas to the following challenges:
I hope you like my project. Thank you for stopping by!

Pink and Orange Mermaid

PaperArtsy is beginning the new year with a wonderful and unique challenge: 2017 Topic #1 - Pink and Orange Challenge. I wouldn't normally use these colors together (makes me think of the 60s and flower power) but after seeing all the great submissions by their contributors, I became inspired. I'm not sure why the image of a mermaid popped into my mind because usually colors that inspire ocean themes are blue & green. I guess it's the way my mind works - lol! In any case, I do like the outcome of this tag.

I'm embarrassed to say that the Fresco Paints were among the stash of new supplies that I have accumulated and I need to start using. I was so amazed at how fluid these paints are! All the colors in the palette are beautiful and come in opaque & translucent. I have to say that I'm partial to the translucent color because you don't have to water it down to achieve translucency. I only have two Fresco paints, Coral & Amethyst.
I added white acrylic to both paints and was pleased with the new colors, especially the Coral. I painted the tag's background with the Amethyst, once it was dry, I used the "pink" on a stencil and overlapped the images. The mermaid's tail was outlined with Ranger's Enamel Accents in pink. The compass was stamped with Ranger's Archival Ink in Monarch Orange. The sentiment was stamped with black archival ink and then Distress Ink in Carved Pumpkin was used.

Thank you for stopping by and have a great day!

Aphrodite, Cupid and Wings

Hello everyone! This has been a fun and frustrating project at the same time because the background colors changed frequently. It started with a blue background, then it became teal, then finally a blue-green metallic color. I added crackle, then blue & gold mist sprays. The second background is a TCW stencil that was added with modeling paste, painted and gold Inka Gold was used to highlight the words. The edges looked a bit plain but didn't want to add something that would take away from the stenciled background, so I decided to add a piece of black stock and distressed the edges.

The image is a painting of Aphrodite and Cupid. I wanted to accentuate the little wings so I added a second set of wings, then added Glossy Accents and glitter stickles. The wings at the top are painted with the same metallic paint as the first background and also has stickles. There is a circle in between the wings so I attached a faux gem to it. The top wings and the yellow "lace" are clay embellishments.

I am adding this project to the following challenges:

Tag with Leonardo da Vinci - Head of Leda, Crackle and Leaf

Here is a second tag I am entering in the Lost Coast Portal to Creativity Challenge #32 - Anything Goes. I painted this tag with acrylic paint, then randomly stamped the circles and flowers with gesso. Once they were dry, I added crackle medium to the entire tag, then a bit of glitter mist. The image of Head of Leda has been transferred on packing tape and was sprayed with Dylusions inks then on the front, a border was added with Ranger Glossy Accents. The word "Dream" was stamped on the right side.

I am also submitting this as a second project to Vintage Journey Challenge - Going Round in Circles.
Enjoy and thank you for stopping by!
